Below you can find a regularly updated list of Thunderbird extensions that are either essential or very useful when using the program.

Because the list is not very long, it is not divided into sections.

One advice for people eager to try new extensions - always check the extension's privacy policy. If it is longer that something like "We do not collect any user data.", be cautious. As a rule of thumb, try not to use any add-on that has a "Custom License" - install only the open source ones (Mozilla Public License, GNU GPL or MIT).

Because the list is periodically updated, if you want to stay up to date with the latest additions and deletions, you can use the Web Pages Scanner extension to be notified about any changes made here.

uBlock Origin

Finally, an efficient wide-spectrum content blocker. Easy on CPU and memory.

uBlock Origin is not an "ad blocker", it's a wide-spectrum content blocker with CPU and memory efficiency as a primary feature.

Not available on Thunderbird addons page, you need to download it directly from authors Gitub page.

Markdown Here Revival

Even better, you can use variables like [[TO=firstname]] to personalize your emails. You can also specify the subject and which attachments to add when creating a template for your email.

If you are a new user to Quicktext, start with reading the pages in the getting started section of the quicktext wiki. They will help you with installing and setting up Quicktext.

MessagePreview adds a column to the Thunderbird message list to display the message preview in a tooltip on column row icon mouse hover or a short preview in the column row itself.

Send Later

This add-on changes the "Send Later" command (Ctrl+Shift+Return) in the message composition window, so that instead of merely copying the message into your Outbox so that it is sent the next time you go online or do "Send Unsent Messages", a dialog pops up which allows you to specify when the message will be sent.

You can specify a specific time and date, or click "15 mins later", "30 mins later" or "2 hours later", or define custom shortcuts. You can also schedule a message to send repeatedly using simple rules (every N hours, days, etc.) or customizable functions.
